What’s the difference between Mooring dolphin and a Breasting dolphin?
A dolphin is a marine structure for mooring and berthing marine vessels. Dolphins are divided into two types: Breasting dolphins and Mooring dolphins.
Breasting dolphins serve the following purposes:
- Assist vessels by taking up berthing loads
- Keep the marine vessel from pressing against the pier, dock or wharf
- Act as mooring points to restrict the berthing vessel’s longitudinal movement.
- Mooring dolphins are used for mooring only. Their primary function is to secure the vessels by rope and to transverse movement of berthing vessels.
